A Deep Meditation Practice Is The Key To Developing Insight
The only way to achieve genuine understanding is not by thinking or reading. Experience is the basis for insight, which can be gained through deliberate practice. Meditation is the method that has proven to be the most successful. Clear awareness is achieved by meditation, which leads to a cessation of mental activity. This is a productive state for increasing one's level of insight.
How to obtain insight through the practice of meditation:
1. Find the time for it. Meditation is something that must be practiced and involves consistent effort. It seems that the most prosperous times are early in the morning and late in the evening. However, fifteen minutes during lunchtime might also be helpful. Even just 15 minutes of your time will be beneficial, but the more time you have available, the better.
2. Find a peaceful place. Although it is possible to meditate in any setting, it is much simpler to do so in a calm and relaxed environment.
3. Assume a posture that is agreeable to you. Any position will do as long as you can hold it without shifting or moving about too much. Although the complete lotus posture can be stored for a long time, most novices do not have the flexibility to assume this position. Experiment with different functions. The best solution is often to choose a nice and firm chair.
4. Relax. Once you've settled into an agreeable posture, take several deep breaths and try to relax. That is about as straightforward as things can get. But easy and simple are not the same thing at all.
5. Bring your attention to your breathing. Keep your attention on the way you are breathing. Become aware of the air coming into and leaving your body. Why is so much emphasis placed on the breath in meditative practices? Because it is taking place at this very now. It is a part of your experience in the here and now.
If you keep your attention on your breathing, it is impossible to concentrate on anything else simultaneously. To prevent your mind from thinking is the primary objective, so keep that in mind.
6. Keep your attention fixed on the breath you take in and out. Your focus will inevitably shift away from the task at hand. There is no set time until you realize you have lost your concentration. It won't take more than a few seconds once you get the hang of it. It could take a few minutes to get used to at first!
When your concentration isn't as good as you'd like it to be, try not to be too hard on yourself. When you become aware that you are thinking, acknowledge the thought and direct your attention back to your breathing. Keep bringing your attention back to your breath.
7. In your day-to-day existence, put the preceding principle into practice. While driving, focus your mind 100% on driving. Do it while you're washing the dishes, and I'll do it while you watch. If you find your mind wandering, you should try to bring it back to the task at hand. You will be astounded by how calmer your life becomes due to doing this.
8. Reap the fruits of your hard work. If you are present in the conversation you are having with other people, you will see the facts of the situation more plainly. You will find out information about persons and circumstances you were unaware of.
You can employ the same strategy when dealing with difficulties in your life. You'll recognize the truth, and answers to your problems will come to you then.
9. Have an accurate understanding of the situation. Your hyperactive mind, beliefs, ideas, and prejudices have always stood in the way of the wisdom offered to you, but you have always received it.
The meditation practice eliminates all of this background noise and bias. After that, you'll be able to have genuine moments of insight. Permit yourself to benefit from the complete understanding that is at your disposal.
Meditation is something that, even though it's beneficial, might take some practice to become proficient. You may not feel like you're getting any benefits from doing this. Keep at it. You won't be disappointed with the results of your hard work.
